Despite being cleared of rape charges and the Nepal Cricket Association (CAN) completing all necessary procedures for the World Cup, the U.S. Embassy in Nepal did not grant him a visa at the last moment.

“The U.S. Embassy in Nepal has done the same thing now as it did in 2019,” Lamichhane stated on Facebook, “Unfortunately! My visa for the T20 World Cup in the USA and West Indies has been rejected. I apologize to all well-wishers of Nepali cricket.”

CAN member Durga Pathak also confirmed that Sandeep’s visa was not issued. He said, “Sandeep was ready to leave for the USA today. We will make further efforts on this matter.”

Previously, after rape allegations were made against him, Interpol issued a diffusion notice against Sandeep at the request of the Nepal Police. Consequently, the U.S. cancelled all his previous visas, necessitating a new application for a visa.
